Client: Western Forest Products

Lawyer:

Our Vancouver office advised Western Forest Products (“WFP”), a Canadian forestry company, in the sale to the Huu-ay-aht First Nations (“HFN”) of three properties located at Sarita Bay, British Columbia. The transaction also involved the long-term leaseback by WFP of the dryland sort located on these properties, an agreement for WFP to harvest 200,000 cubic metres of timber from other HFN lands and an employment and training agreement that seeks to increase the number of HFN citizens participating in the forestry sector. This transaction provides a strong foundation for WFP and HFN to develop a long-term partnership with respect to lands and timber resources in the Bamfield-Anacla area of Vancouver Island.

The team was led by Mario Rubio and included Daniel Bennett, Q.C.
